From Chapter 2

October 22, 2004 - 10:06am -- Steven

I am in Chapter 2. Olivia and I had a long talk about the nature of the Wood Between the Worlds. Five and three-quarter year olds have a surprisingly deep understanding of metaphysics.

From Chapter 2:

The faint colors that a sunrise can add to countryside often reveal a beauty unseen by day. As Mabel took in the view about her, she knew this land would hold its luster in any light. The oldest trees, majestic, craggy, and strong, placed a generous distance apart and separated by verdant green, rolling hills peopled her view.

fault

March 28, 2004 - 9:58am -- Steven

It wasn't Mabel's fault. Really, it wasn't.

For as long as she could remember, her father had been ill. So, of course, her mother, a truly intelligent and resourceful woman, had taken any job she could find. After all, someone needed to take care of Father, Mabel, and little Andrew.

So it really had nothing to do with Mabel when her mother applied for the openning as teacher of the school, no matter what the other chidren thought. Mrs. Ketterley had applied because she knew she could do the job, and do it well. She was intelligent and she didn't care who knew it.

Introduction

March 28, 2004 - 9:53am -- Steven

My daughter Olivia (she's 5 1/4) and I are working on a pre-quel to the Narnia books. Over the past year and a half, I have read her all seven books in the series. And, it would seem, that Olivia had a lot of questions about the origins of thing that were not answered in The Magician's Nephew.

So, being a good pagan-parent of a daughter, I decided to help her develop a story that both explains some of the ancient beginnings of the magical realm and that balances the roles of the sexes (so not all the Narnian heros are men).
